Scholarships and internships

Attention — Stop updating in English, look on the French or German side to be up to date. Thank you, Thomas.

Dagobert Geld

There are a number of scholarships available to financially support our students and we would like to draw attention to those who are interested in the Franco-German Saar-Lor-Lux Physics programme. The number of scholarship opportunities are not fully presented on this page, so we encourage our students to also take initiatives for their own benefit. We are happy to assist you with advice and letters of recommendation.

Mobility aid

Since the integrated programme is recognised and encouraged by the Franco-German University (DFH), the organisation provides each student a mobility aid of 300€ per month, for ten months per year in two of the three universities. The arrangement of this bursary is taken care for by us.

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the new programme for exchange opportunities, previously known as Erasmus. The aim of the scheme is to promote cooperation between universities in Europe and to encourage mobility of students and teachers. Our students of German and French nationalities will receive an additional financial support of around 300€ a month in their second year in Luxembourg. The one-year financial aid may be requested again for the master's programme. Applications are simple and straight forward and are usually approved.

Bafög

During the time abroad in France and Luxembourg, students of German nationality can acquire an additional financial aid (Auslandsbafög). It is available for an integrated programme like ours and can be requested for study periods longer than one year.

For the year in France, the application is done via the district administration in Mainz-Bingen and the educational office of the regional government of Cologne for Luxembourg. Contact in Saarbrücken is the student union. International application is a little different from the national application. In any case, the students should prepare and submit the necessary forms preferably six months in advance to allow process time.

Caisse d'allocation familiale (CAF)

In France, there is also a national financial aid that is granted depending on familial statuses. (see for more information). The application deadline is is normally at the end of May. For the German version please visit this website .
Students' residences (résidences universitaires) are uniformly regulated and assigned by CROUS throughout the whole of France. Students can apply for financial aids towards accommodation costs from CAF. The amount granted depends on parental income and the rent. For an indicative quote, see .

Deutschlandstipendium

Students can apply for a scholarship from Deutschlandstipendium during their time at the Saarland University (currently looking at 300€ a month). It is awarded to students with excellent academic results. Many of our students have already made successful applications. Here is the link to the application portal .

Internships

Many of our students do an internship in the summer after the second year in Luxembourg. Upon successful completion and assessment, students will be able to obtain 5 ECTS points that can be validated as part of the study in the third year. The institute/organisation must be able to produce a graded report of your work, in order to obtain the ECTS points. The options to do an internship is unlimited, as there are many opportunities worldwide. When you have decided to dedicate yourself to an internship, contact professor Wagner to explain what the subject will be.
You can find numerous internship opportunities on the website of DPG (Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft) .
